To commit to France
Why ?
The motivations of the resisters are numerous, between Gaullism, the will to liberate the occupier, or the fight for the Republican values, each one commits for its reasons but in the end, the same goal: The liberation of France.
The resistance fighters do not all have the same political ideas, but all fight for honor and for their homeland, against fascism.
The Communists massively joined the Resistance after the attack of the USSR by the Wehrmacht in June 1941. The Vichy regime's policy of collaboration, and in particular the persecution of the Jews, pushes some to commit.
How?
In France, there were some shy beginnings. Resistance begins with the distribution of leaflets, newspapers. The resistance fighters collect military intelligence from other countries infiltrating administrations or helping people to leave France.
Neanwhile, the organization of the action of the Resistance becomes more organized and takes various forms to be more efficient as:
- Counter propaganda with the distribution of leaflets and newspapers ...
- Communications with the outside as information, reception and protection of Allied paratroopers.
- Helping the persecuted people by hiding them, by fessing them with false papers or creating escape routes.
- Finally, the most violent forms of comuitment are attacks, sabotage or clashes.
