France after the second world war
Once the Second World War was over, we have an opposition between two France; France "from below", an internal resistance that has taken power locally and intends to keep it, partly under communist influence. And Gaullist France "from above", which would represent the state order (De Gaulle).
The reconstruction in France after the Second World War refers to all initiatives to repair the disastrous consequences of the war in France.
In 1944, the goal of General de Gaulle is the restoration of republican legality by adopting the main principles of the CNR. Elections are quickly organized to rule on the return or not of the Third Republic. For the first time, women participate. The vote of rejection of the institutions of the Third Republic, thus opens the way to the establishment of a new Republic. A provisional government of the French Republic (GPRF), led by De Gaulle is set up.
With the desire to restore political morality, both want to base the Fourth Republic on a more balanced distribution of power and more social justice. The program of action of the CNR, adopted unanimously on March 15th, 1944, reflects these evolutions.
Once the oppressors, the Nazi dictatorship and the Vichy regime hunted.
Resilient combat is quickly accompanied by a reflection on the political organization to be established.
The first decision taken by De Gaulle is to declare the laws adopted, under the Vichy regime, "null and void". The GPRF restores the fundamental freedoms (freedom of press, of meeting, of conscience) and all the bridges, the railways destroyed by the resistant ones are rebuilt. In 1946, the constitution of the new Republic was adopted, the 5th Republic was, thus, proclaimed, but De Gaulle disagreed with this Republic withdrew from power.
The general committee of studies appointed by Jean Moulin to prepare the Liberation, various major Resistance movements, publish texts, often general, about the future regime.
The political parties that are constituted or reconstituted come from the Resistance and was generated by itself. The political generation that emerges then will mark the political life until the 80s.
The liberation of France takes place on several aspects: the liberation of the territory which is carried out in 1945. But the liberation (purification,
reconstruction state) takes time and they forgot the memory of Vichy to facilitate the Reconstruction.
